Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

After reading the article from the New York times “I’ve Been in That Club, Just not In Real Life,” one can say that the offerings of these virtual worlds, contribute positively by increasing its users self-confidence. The users of these virtual worlds gain confidence by creating small conversations, interacting, and getting familiarize with each other creating a connection for the future. That example can be used towards the real world as explained in the article “where she explained to me that the interaction we had over the Internet was just as valid as the one we were now having over a plate of French fries.” A cons, that can be considered from these virtual worlds is that individuals, might feel too comfortable with these not real worlds, that sometimes they will spend more time in them than in the actual world. In the article “In Room 100, It’s Sid and Nancy All Over Again,” was expressed how real for someone this virtual world can be since this person had always fantasized to live in this hotel, Mr. Brown says, “The rest of this hotel is as close to real life as I could make it.”
A different way that virtual worlds can be used are for tours on a museum, to learn about culture and history of society since the information acquired from it will stay within oneself. Also, for virtual worlds that we have not meet yet for example, another country or the space. Virtual world allows individuals to put their thoughts in images, fostering one creativity, as said in the second article the hotel was recreated as the former manager remembered it. It could be said as a drawing, one put their thoughts and imagination in colors, creating a virtual world is recreating what you have in memories. Virtual worlds will be better and will feel more real.
